Ultrasonic Jet Pump Cleaning

Client – Peach Bottom Nuclear Power Plant & Dominion Engineering, Inc.

Ripple Design partnered with Dominion Engineering, Inc. to design and field a first-of-its-kind ultrasonic jet pump cleaning system at Peach Bottom Nuclear Power Plant. Drawing on extensive experience in the nuclear power industry, Ripple Design engineers designed, fabricated, and successfully deployed an array of ultrasonic tools to clean deposits from the jet pump inlet nozzles, a high-radiation environment more than 80 feet below the reactor cavity water surface.

Because accessibility and visibility were both extremely limited, we designed and fabricated a mockup that allowed Westinghouse technicians to practice with the tools before the Fall 2009 cleaning campaign. Based on user feedback, the tools and operating procedure were revised to minimize the required cleaning window during the critical refueling outage.
