Richard Derman – Lead Electrical & Biomedical Engineer

Rick has over 35 years of medical product development and regulatory affairs experience. He has led the development of products for tissue engineering, ultrasound, 3D ultrasound, anesthesiology, patient monitoring, and electrophysiology. His experience ranges from analog and digital electrical design to regulatory affairs and 510(k) submissions. Recently, Rick has focused on low-level bio-detection and embedded microcontroller designs for use in portable, handheld and disposable medical devices with EDGE Product Development. While with EDGE he has also worked on a protocol driven cell culturing system, an aerosolized bio-threat detector, an IV fluid warmer, an endoscope reprocessing system, and a satellite transceiver-based luminaire control system.

Prior to working at EDGE, Rick was the Director of Advanced Ultrasound Technology at Medsim Inc. where he directed 3D and 4D ultrasound acquisition related activities, and managed key projects and relationships with medical societies. He also worked at Life Imaging Systems and Interspec Inc.. At Interspec he was a Program Manager for Color Flow Mapping systems and 3D/4D ultrasound products, and managed 510(k) submittal efforts and other regulatory affairs. Rick also worked at Vingmed, Inc, Honeywell Medical Electronics, and Helen Hayes Hospital.

Rick has a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
